and International Division of the IRS. I examine the tax returns of large,
complex business taxpayers to ensure That income and expenses reported
on their tax returns are accurate. It is my responsibility to act as the team lead to
organize, meet with, and facilitate communications Between the taxpayer and subject matter experts,
specialists, and IRS counsel attorneys who assist With the examination. I enjoy collaborating
with colleagues in different areas of expertise. It allows me to learn new things and to build
my professional network. I also interact with Taxpayers and their representatives daily, so
it is important that I communicate clearly.
I also have autonomy and independence when it
comes to identifying the tax return items that I want to examine and the documents I want to
request and review. During the examinations, I identify the items reported on tax returns
that require audit and review, identify what Information and documents are needed to support
the dollar amounts reported on the tax return, Request supporting information and documentation
from the taxpayer, and perform in depth reviews of Supporting documents that the taxpayer provides.
I am also required to write reports and prepare Other written communications that clearly
communicate my position to both taxpayers And to upper-level management. The work is
challenging, and it pushes me to learn more. Compared to the private sector, training at
the IRS is much more detailed and in-depth. The IRS also has many career opportunities and
